The CCC is pleased to launch our new podcast Constitutionally Sound, available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other major podcast providers. The podcast, hosted by journalist and broadcaster Allan Little, offers in-depth analysis of constitutional politics in the United Kingdom and beyond.
In the UK we are living through a period of constitutional upheaval more profound than at any time in living memory. We know what we are in transition from, but what are we in transition to? What powers are coming back to the UK from Brussels? Whose hands will those powers end up in? What will be the impact of Brexit on relations between the four nations of the UK?
In our first episode, Allan speaks with two experts - CCC Co-Director Professor Nicola McEwen and Philip Rycroft, who until 2019 was Permanent Secretary at the Department for Exiting the European Union. Together, they explore the challenges posed by Brexit to the devolved settlement, the understanding of devolution at Whitehall and Westminster, and the impact of the controversial Internal Market Bill on the devolved settlement. They conclude with reflections on the political dangers for the United Kingdom in the months and years ahead.
