The House of Commons debated Scotland's place in the UK yesterday. The Labour MP for Glasgow East, Mr William Bain opened the debate with the remark that the independence referendum 'is a battle of visions for the future of Scotland—one with huge implications for the future of other multinational states across the world'. The debate covered shared identities in the nations of the UK, future powers for Scotland within the union, and questions around currency unions, the Scottish banking industry, and European Union membership in the event of a yes vote.
