Rethinking Scotland’s Economy – exploring the alternatives
Friday, November 8, 2013 - 08:30 to 12:00
ESRC Festival of Social Science event led by SCVO in partnership with Heriot Watt University
“Our vision for Scotland’s future economy within the constitutional debate on the future of Scotland”
Up until now public debate about the future of Scotland’s economy has focused on the consequences of independence or transfer of new powers – a passive debate. What we have not had yet is an opportunity to reflect on the kind of economy we actually want to see – an active debate. Since the financial crisis, a lot of people have been calling for a fundamental rethink of our approach to the economy. How can we shift to an economic model which is more meaningful to people and their communities? But exactly what are the alternative propositions , and are they viable? In partnership with some of Scotland’s leading thinkers, this event will bring together those in civil society, business and academia that have given some thought to this, connect their ideas and build up the momentum for change. This is a Breakfast Café conversation set in a highly interactive ‘open space’.
