My PhD research focuses on the external relations of sub-state governments, or ‘paradiplomacy’. It looks firstly uncover the ways in which these sub-state governments develop international agency, and secondly to investigate the link between party-political control and the nature of external representations. The study draws on empirical evidence from Wales, Bavaria and Scotland and utilizes the frameworks of both international relations and comparative politics.
Research Interests: International relations theory, diplomacy, regionalism and federalism, inter-governmental relations, constitutional politics and the EU.
I am a member of the Wales Governance Centre, the European Governance, Identities and Public Policy (EGIPP) Research Unit, and the Gendered Research Opportunities Unit (GRO), all at Cardiff University.
I teach Political Science at undergraduate level, and contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate modules on Welsh politics. I am currently part of a team of three PGR representatives for the school of European Languages, Translation and Politics. If anyone has particular ideas for seminar series, visiting speakers, or other feedback then please contact me on the email address above.
